The numbers, and what actually caused them.

In February 2026 we rebuilt the website and search presence of an independent used car dealership near Charlotte, North Carolina. Everything below is from its Google Search Console and Business Profile - the same reports the dealer sees.

The full story

The site existed. Buyers weren't finding it.

This dealer came to us with a working website and a Google Business Profile - the same setup as thousands of independent lots. In the 90 days before we started, the Business Profile sent 88 visitors to the website. The site's average Google position was 35.3, which means page four. Nobody reads page four.

We rebuilt the site and the search presence in February 2026. Six things changed:

  • Every page rewritten around the dealership itself - its story, its buyers, its financing - instead of boilerplate that could describe any lot in America.
  • Dedicated body-style pages for SUVs, trucks, and sedans, so Google had a page to rank for each of those searches instead of one generic inventory list.
  • A "Why Buy From Us" block, a map, and contact info on every vehicle page, because most buyers land on a car, not the homepage.
  • Real customer reviews placed through the site - on the homepage, the category pages, and the vehicle pages where they do the persuading.
  • The Google Business Profile filled out completely - categories, services, description, photos - and kept active with posts.
  • Real photos of the lot and team, with supporting images created only where photography didn't exist.

The number that matters most: impressions went DOWN.

Over six months, impressions fell 14% while clicks grew 320%. That's not a contradiction - that's the whole point. Before the rebuild, Google was showing the site to the wrong people, in the wrong searches, at position 35. After it, Google showed the site less often but to the right people, and nearly five times more of them clicked.

If an SEO report only shows you impressions going up, ask to see clicks and CTR. Impressions are free. Clicks are customers.

Brand searches vs. "used cars near me"

Two queries tell the story. Searches for the dealership's own name grew from 52 clicks to 234 - more people know the lot exists, which is what real photos, reviews, and an active profile do.

The harder number: "used cars near me" went from 1 click in six months to 27. Every one of those 27 is a buyer who had never heard of this dealership and found it because Google decided it was a trustworthy local answer. That's the search every lot in every market is fighting for, and it can't be bought with a bigger listing-site subscription.

The cleanest before/after we measured

PeriodGBP → website clicks
90 days before the rebuild88
90 days after the rebuild551 +526%

Same profile, same lot, same market. The only variable was the work. The profile surfaced for 414 searches in the after-period, and the top terms were all generic - "used cars near me," "used car dealerships near me," "car dealerships near me." None of those buyers were looking for this dealer by name. Google sent them anyway.

What this doesn't mean

This is one dealership, in one market, with one starting point. It is not a promise that your lot grows 526% in 90 days. A dealer in a bigger metro with stronger competitors moves slower; a dealer starting from a template site with zero content often moves faster. What the case shows is the mechanism: when the website, the profile, the reviews, and the pages all point the same direction, Google responds - measurably, and fast.

The work that produced these numbers is the $999/month Automotive SEO System, and every piece of it is listed publicly on that page. If you'd rather run the playbook yourself, it's written out in our dealer SEO guide - free, no email required.
